DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
What is Deep Tissue Massage Therapy? Well, like the name says, it is deeper work on the muscles. Everyone has a different idea of what deep is, whether client or therapist. Not to toot my own horn, but I am amazed at how many therapist claim to do deep tissue but for me, it’s a fluff massage. One man's deep tissue is another man's fluff massage. If a client has had a therapist that doesn't do a true deep tissue massage, they have a mind-set of "I can take really deep tissue" or "you can't hurt me". Or if a client has been hurt by a deep tissue massage, chances are the therapist applied pressure on endangerment sites such as spine, etc. And that client may be scared off from deep tissue in the future. Communication is the key. I always check in with my clients & I pay attention to body language. If you're cringing to take the pressure, it's counter-productive. There's a good hurt when you feel the muscles releasing & then there's a bad hurt when you feel like you want to jump off the table!
There are also different styles of deep tissue massage. The style I use is neuromuscular. Neuromuscular is a technique where I apply pressure on a knotted or tense area for at least 40 seconds. The sustained pressure forces the muscles to release. If you have a lot of issues, please allow sufficient time. If you want a full-body massage, an hour is not going to be enough time.
After a deep tissue massage you may be somewhat sore the next day. It should be a good sore, however; if you were in a lot of pain & needed really deep tissue, you may be more sore. There are different levels of deep. Except in a few cases, I don't suggest deep tissue for first-timers. And make sure you drink a lot of water as well as perhaps icing the area. That will help reduce the soreness as well as water helps to flush out toxins that massage breaks up. 850-622-1023
